Matt Pearson

Matt Pearson began his coaching career at MLC in the 2014-15 school year, when he took the reins of the MLC women’s cross country and softball programs.

In 2019, Pearson took over the MLC men's golf program as its head coach, while continuing to coach softball in the spring.

Through seven seasons at the helm of the softball program, Pearson holds a record of 70-117.

In his first season as the head softball coach in 2015, Pearson led the Knights to a 13-18 record overall and a conference mark of 8-13. He followed that with 9-20 season in year two, and a 13-22 season in year three.

In his fourth season, Pearson was named UMAC Coach of the Year in softball following a 11-17 record overall and 8-8 record in UMAC play. He followed that a tie for fifth place in 2019 and a 10-18 record overall.

Pearson took over the men's golf program in 2019 with a history of teaching the sport. He was junior golf coordinator for Koshkonong Mounds CC in Fort Atkinson, WI, from 1997-2005, giving both individual and group lessons during that time. In his first season, Pearson coached the Knights to the program's best finish (third place) since the 2008 season. Three MLC golfers were named All-UMAC at the end of the season, including First Team All-UMAC honoree Zackary Zuberbier.

As a player, Pearson played one year at MLC (1996), and also played on the I Tour (Houston, TX, division) during with 2009 season with three top 20 finishes. He also played on the Golf Channel Am Tour that year and won the River Ridge Invite in Sugarland, TX.

Pearson started his MLC coaching career in 2014 with the women's cross country team, and coached that program for five seasons (2014-18). He added the men's cross country team for the 2017 and 18 seasons. 
 
Pearson comes to MLC after serving as a teacher, athletic director and coach at St. John’s Lutheran School in Jefferson, Wis., from 1997-2007, and then as coach, teacher and assistant principal at Abiding Word Lutheran School in Houston, Texas. Pearson also coached football, basketball, soccer, baseball and golf at the youth levels.
 
Pearson also teaches Physical Education at MLC.
