Sam Hunter enters his fifth year as the strength and conditioning coach, where he oversees the design and implementation of year-round performance programs for the department's student-athletes. He is in his first year as the interim co-athletic director.

Hunter is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). He is also a professor of physical education at MLC.

Hunter graduated from MLC in 2006 with a degree in elementary education. While at MLC, he played four years of football as a running back and fullback under coaches Dennis Gorsline, Chuck Hussmann and Doug Lange. 

A lifelong learner, Hunter also has two master's degrees. He graduated from UW-Oshkosh in 2014 with a Master of Science in Educational Leadership and then from the University of Arkansas in 2020 with a Master of Education in Physical Education.

Hunter brings five years of collegiate strength and conditioning experience, along with nearly a decade of football coaching experience. Prior to coming to MLC, he served as an assistant football coach at St. Croix Lutheran Academy from 2006-08 before returning to the sidelines as an assistant coach at Shoreland Lutheran High School from 2015-22.

Hunter grew up in New Ulm and attended Minnesota Valley Lutheran, where he played football and basketball before graduating in 2002. 

He and his wife, Christine, live in New Ulm with their three children.
