MANKATO, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team suffered the same fate as the women's team in the first game of the double header with a 1-0 overtime loss at Bethany Lutheran College Tuesday night.
The Knights dominated the stat sheet, out-shooting the Vikings 20-12 overall and 12-7 in shots on goal, but were unable to get anything past BLC keeper Matt Bitter.
MLC played the final ten minutes of regulation and all of overtime with ten players after midfielder
Erich Osterman was given his second yellow card of the game.
The Vikings took advantage, as Kenny Johnson scored the game-winner in the 95th minute off an assist from Mike Loguercio to end the night.
Aaron Markgraf led MLC with three total shots, and joined
Aaron Swanson,
Colin Bahmer and
Wesley Towne with two credited shots on goal.
Caleb King stopped six of the seven shots he faced in goal for MLC.
The loss dropped MLC to 6-6-1 on the season and 3-4-1 in conference play. BLC improved to 4-9-1 overall and 4-3-1 in UMAC play with the win.
MLC will return to action on Saturday, October 17, when it hosts UW-Superior. That game is scheduled to start at 3:15 p.m.
