NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team lost 3-1 to Minnesota Morris on Wednesday.
The Cougars jumped ahead early on a Carly Denler goal in the fourth minute, and added a second goal in the 19th minute to take a 2-0 lead.
MLC pulled to within one in the 33rd minute when
Jenna Maurer scored her seventh goal of the season off a pass from
Danielle Hall, but the Cougars quickly took back the momentum with a goal three minutes later to take a 3-1 lead into the half.
The Knights battled in the second half with eight total shots and three shots on goal, but weren't able to cut into the deficit as the Cougars held on for the win.
Martha Balge was a threat throughout the game on offense for MLC, and led the team with three total shots and two shots on goal. Maurer and
Hailey Johnson each finished with two shots.
In goal for MLC,
Julia Barthels stopped six of the nine shots she faced.
MLC fell to 2-9-1 on the season in defeat, while UMM improved to 4-5 with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, October 10, when they travel to North Central. That game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
