WATERTOWN, Wis. - The Martin Luther College men's basketball team was unable to slow down Maranatha Baptist University in a 76-67 loss Friday.

The Sabercats took a ten-point lead into halftime after a five-point run in the final seconds of the first half, which included a deep three-pointer at the buzzer. MBU shot 60 percent from the field in the half.

The Knights battled to open the start of the second half, pulling to within four points at 43-39 with 17:01 to play, but MBU was able to push the lead back up to 13 points followng a timeout. MLC was able to cut to six points or less four different times in the second stanza, but each time MBU would respond with a run to keep the Knights at bay on the way to the nine-point win.

Todd Brassow led MLC with 25 points, but the Sabercats forced him to take 27 shots to reach that total. Josh Rathje added 19 points on 7-12 shooting from the field (including 3-4 from beyond the three-point arc). T.J. Babinec added 15  points and dished out four assists. Brassow and Zach Peterson led the Knights with six rebounds apiece.

MLC fell to 0-3 on the season following the loss, while the win improved MBU's record to 2-0.

The Knights will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, November 21) when they travel to Lakeland College for a game scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
