Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

MLC Men Lose 84-67

NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's basketball team was unable to contain the bigger UW-Superior front line in an 84-67 loss Saturday.

The Knights held a four-point first half lead at 21-17, but the Yellowjackets took control of the game with an 11-0 run on the way to a 37-27 halftime lead.

UWS built the lead as high as 21 early in the second half with a 13-2 run out of the locker room, but the Knights battled back. A Todd Brassow jumper from Michael Paulsen cut the deficit to seven points with 7:19 to play, but the Yellowjackets were once again able to build the cushion on the way to the win.

UWS dominated the game down low, out-scoring MLC 46-18 in the paint (including 28-10 in the second half), and out-rebounding the Knights 47-28.

Josh Rathje and Brassow each finished with 20 points, with 17 of Rathje's points coming in the second half. Rathje also added four rebounds and three assists.

Paulsen joined them in double figures with 16 points, and also finished with a team-best five assists.

MLC fell to 0-7 on the season and 0-2 in league play in defeat. The win improved the Yellowjackets' record to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the UMAC.

The Knights will return to action on Saturday, December 12, when they travel to Bethany Lutheran. That game is scheduled to tip off at 3 p.m.
