NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team evened its conference record with a 3-1 win over Crown College on Friday.
The Knights fell behind early thanks to an Austin Higginbotham goal in the 16th minute that put the Storm ahead 1-0.
MLC fought back, however, tying the game in the 39th minute on an
Aaron Swanson shot from the right side off a pass from
Jonathan Neumann. The goal was Swanson's team-leading fifth of the season.
The Knights controlled the game after the half, out-shooting the Storm 14-4 overall and allowing only two Crown shots on goal in the final 45 minutes.
Josh Koelpin scored the game-winner in the 60th minute, and
Ethan Schultz added the insurance goal in the 85th minute to put the Storm away. The goals were the first of the season for both players.
Caleb King was steady in goal for the Knights, stopping six of the seven shots he faced in the game. Koelpin, Swanson and
Aaron Markgraf were threats throughout the game, combining for 15 total shots. Swanson also added an assist on Schultz's goal late in the game.
MLC improved to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in UMAC play with the w. Crown fell to 0-3-1 on the season and 0-1-1 in conference play in defeat.
The Knights will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, September 19) when they host North Central in a non-conference game scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
