NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College volleyball team swept Bethany Lutheran College 3-0 on Tuesday by the scores of 25-19, 25-23, and 25-14 to earn its first conference win of the season.
The Knights took control midway through the first set, breaking open a 14-13 game with six straight points on the way to a 25-19 win and 1-0 lead in the match.
MLC needed to fight off a late BLC charge in the second set, as the Vikings scored four straight points after trailing 24-19, but
Rylee Weisensel ended the set with a kill to give MLC the 2-0 lead in the match.
The Knights cruised from there, taking a commanding lead with the help of a pair of service aces from
Laura Schoenherr on the way to the sweep.
MLC finished the match with an attack percentage of .253, and also took advantage of a number of BLC errors. The Vikings hit .038 on the attack and committed 29 attack errors. They also committed nine service errors in the match.
Kira Grev and
Jade St. Germaine led MLC with nine and eight kills respectively, while
Heidi Moldenhauer finished with 30 assists to lead all players in the match.
Megan Lemke led the Knights with 11 digs.
The Knights improved their record to 2-15 overall and 1-1 in UMAC play with the win. BLC fell to 4-12 on the season and 1-1 in league play in defeat.
MLC will return to action on Saturday, October 3, when it travels to Northland College for a match scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
