SUPERIOR, Wis. - The Martin Luther College men's basketball team was unable to overcome an early deficit in an 89-72 loss at UW-Superior on Friday.
The Knights struggled from the field to open the game, making only three of their first 20 field goal attempts on the way to a 38-22 halftime deficit.
MLC was able to cut the deficit to ten points with five minutes to play in the game, but was unable to get any closer before the Yellowjackets pulled away with one last run before the final buzzer.
The Knights struggled to find balance for much of the game, as
Todd Brassow,
T.J. Babinec and
Josh VonDeylen were the only players to score through the midway point of the second half before
Michael Paulsen scored 11 points in the final eight minutes.Â
Brassow finished with a game-high 30 points on 10-24 shooting from the field to lead MLC, while Babinec continued his strong shooting from last weekend's record-setting performance with 22 points. Babinec made six of his ten attempts from beyond the three-point arc, and now has 14 three-point field goals in his last two games, while Brassow has now scored at least 30 points in four of his last five games.
The Yellowjackets finished with four players in double figures, led by 27 points and 12 rebounds from Zach Schradle.
MLC fell to 1-15 overall and 1-8 in UMAC play in defeat. UWS improved its record to 8-9 on the season and 5-4 in league play with the win.
The Knights will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, January 23), when they travel to St. Scholastica. Tip off for that game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
