NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team allowed a pair of second half goals in a 2-1 loss to Northland on Saturday.
The Knights took an early 1-0 lead thanks to a goal by
Mary Falck in the 14th minute of play. The goal came on a shot from outside the box off a pass from
Danielle Hall, and was the first goal of Falck's collegiate career.
That one-goal advantage held the rest of the first half, but the Lumberjills tied the score 1-1 in the 49th minute, and then scored the game winner in the 66th minuth. Kaya Voldberg scored both goals for Northland.
The two teams were even statistically. Both teams finished with nine shots on goal, while NC held the edge in total shots by a 20-15 margin.
Julia Barthels stopped seven of the nine shots she faced in goal for the Knights. Falck and
Hailey Johnson led MLC with four shots apiece.
The Knights fell to 2-8 on the season and 1-3 in UMAC play in defeat. NC improved to 5-3-1 overall and 5-0-1 in conference with the win.
MLC will return to action on Wednesday, October 5, when it travels to Minnesota Morris for a non-conference game. That game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
