NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team lost a non-conference game against Bethany Lutheran 1-0 in overtime on Tuesday.
The two teams went back and forth for 90 minutes, but neither was able to push across a goal in regulation as they went to overtime.
In the first minute of the extra period, BLC's Bridget Brown scored the game-winner, driving down the right side and shooting it past MLC keeper
Julia Barthels to end the game.
The two teams were even most of the game on the stat sheet, with the Vikings outshooting the Knights 22-16 overall, but only 8-7 in shots on goal. Barthels stopped seven of the eight shots she faced for MLC.
Jenna Maurer led MLC with five shots (one on goal), but the Knights also had several strong scoring chances from
Hailey Johnson,
Sarah Couture and Abigail Koelpin, but were unable to get anything past BLC keeper Averi Cash, who stopped all seven MLC shots on goal.
The Knights fell to 3-10 on the season in defeat, while BLC improved to 6-6-2 with the win.
These two teams will return to action on Thursday, October 13, when they play a conference make-up game at BLC. The game was originally scheduled for September 21, but was moved to Thursday due to rain. Thursday's game will start at 5 p.m.
