NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College football team committed seven turnovers in a 48-0 loss to Westminster on Saturday.
Westminster built a 27-0 halftime lead with a big-play offense than scored on pass plays of 46 and 40 yards, and ran for a 58-yard score. The Blue Jays also recovered an MLC fumble and ran it in from 23 yards out for their fourth score.
The defense forced two Westminster turnovers to keep the Blue Jays at bay, but MLC struggled on offense with only 92 total yards in the first half.
Westminster put the game away in the third quarter, as running back Latif Adams scored his second and third touchdowns of the game to end any hopes of an MLC comeback. Adams finished the day with 243 yards rushing and three scores, helping Westminster to a total of 297 yards on the ground.
The Knights finished with 213 total yards, but seven turnovers put the defense in tough situations for much of the game.
T.J. Babinec finished 12-24 passing for 103 yards, but was intercepted three times.
Ian Paulsen led the MLC receivers with four catches for 47 yards.
Josh VonDeylen intercepted two passes for the MLC defense, while
Keith Brassow (one sack, 3.5 tackles for loss) and
Chris Dean (ten tackles) also had good days for the defense.
The Knights fell to 0-7 on the season and 0-6 in UMAC play in defeat. Westminster improved to 4-3 overall and 4-2 in league play with the win.
MLC will return to action on Saturday, October 22, when it travels to Greenville for a game scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
