COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team lost 65-57 to Saint Mary's (Minn.) on day two of the Quinlivan & Hughes Tip-Off Tournament hosted by College of Saint Benedict on Sunday.

The Knights continued to play strong defense, as they did the first two games of the season, but once again struggled to find consistency on the offensive end of the court, shooting 30.9 percent from the field compared to 39.3 percent for the Cardinals. 

MLC was able to generate more from the outside in this contest, making a season-high seven three-point field goals, and also went 16-22 from the free throw line after struggling from the charity stripe in yesterday's game against CSB.

SMU took a 16-11 lead after the first quarter, and held that lead the rest of the game. The Cardinals pushed that lead to eight (36-28) at the half, and then nine points (53-44) after the three quarters.

The Knights kept within striking distance, cutting the deficit to five early in the fourth period, but were not able to get any closer the rest of the way.

Mariah Schoof led MLC with 21 points to go with eight rebounds and three blocks. Jade St. Germaine added 11 points and eight rebounds, while Faith Schroeder scored ten points and made four of her six attempts from the field.

The Knights fell to 0-3 on the season in defeat, while the Cardinals improved to 2-1 with the win.

MLC will return to action tomorrow (Monday, November 21) when it hosts Macalester to close a tough stretch of three games in three days. That game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m.
