NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's basketball team was unable to slow the hot-shooting Saints of St. Scholastica in a 95-71 loss on Friday.
The three-pointer was the main weapon in the Saints' arsenal, as they attempted 47 shots from downtown and made 17. MLC finished the day 6-12 from beyond the arc.
The Saints' Kory Deadrick pushed them to a first half lead with 17 points on 6-9 shooting (including 5-8 from three-point range), but the Knights closed the gap to only four heading into the break following an
Ian Paulsen baseline jam in the final minutes.
CSS would quickly build the lead into double figures to open the second half, however, and shot 61.1 percent from the field after the break. In the final 20 minutes, the Saints made 13 of 14 attempts from inside the arc, and went 9-22 from outside of it.
The Knights were efficient from the field, shooting 52.0 percent from the field for the game, but 17 turnovers proved costly as the Saints turned those extra possessions into 18 points the other way.
TJ Babinec led MLC with 16 points.
Jeffrey Parker and Nate LIndloff each finished with nine points, while
Josh VonDeylen led the team with eight rebounds.
MLC fell to 1-9 on the season and 0-4 in UMAC play in defeat. The Saints improved to 5-4 overall and 3-1 in league play with the win.
The Knights will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, December 17) when they host UW-Superior in a game scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
