WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Martin Luther College baseball team split its second doubleheader of its trip to Florida on Sunday against Mount St. Vincent. The Knights won game one 5-4, but lost game two 11-2.
GAME 1The Knights took advantage of a strong pitching performance by
Jonathan Kock to win game one 5-4.
Kock went the distance for MLC, allowing four runs (all earned) on 12 hits in 7.0 innings, and improved to 1-2 on the season with the win.
Kock allowed all four runs in the second inning, but overcame that to shut down the Dolphins the rest of the way.
MLC scored a pair of runs in the first inning, and then once in the third, fifth and sixth innings to take the lead.Â
Erich Osterman led the way with four hits and three runs scored. Kock helped his cause with three runs batted in, while
Travis Kretsch drove in the winning run in the sixth inning with a double that scored
Jacob Schultz.
GAME 2MLC was unable to stay out of the big inning in an 11-2 game two loss to CMSV.
Jason Lindemann put MLC ahead 1-0 in the first inning, but the Dolphins scored four times off
Dillon Solomon in the second inning, and then seven times against reliever
John Marquardt in the fifth inning to put the game away.
Solomon took the loss for MLC, fallling to 0-2 on the season. He pitched the first three innings, allowing four runs (all earned) on five hits and four walks.
Kock led the MLC hitters with two hits, including a triple, and one run scored.
MLC moved to 2-4 on the season following the split, while CMSV moved to 1-4.
The Knights will return to action on Monday, March 21, when they play a double header against Grove City College. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 11 a.m.Â
MLC also added a game against Loras College for Tuesday, March 22, down in Winter Haven, Fla. That game is scheduled to start at 9 a.m.
