AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Martin Luther College baseball team dropped both games of a double header against Grove City College on Monday by the scores of 3-2 and 5-1.
GAME 1The Knights were unable to hold a two-run lead in the final inning in a 3-2 loss in game one.
Starting pitcher
James Hemmelman was stellar on the mound, throwing a complete game and holding the Wolverines scoreless until they scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to walk off with the win.
Hemmelman went the distance for MLC, allowing eight hits and three unearned runs. He struck out one and didn't walk anyone, but fell to 0-1 on the season in defeat.
The Knights opened the scoring with a
Jason Lindemann double that scored
Erich Osterman.
Dillon Solomon drove in the second run in the top of the seventh inning with a single that scored
Karl Kuschel.
Kuschel led the Knights at the plate with two hits and one run scored.
GAME 2The Knights were unable to generate much with the bats in a 5-1 loss in game two.
MLC jumped on top 1-0 in the top of the fourth inning when
Jonathan Kock scored on a wild pitch, but that was the only run the Knights were able to push across the plate in the game.
Grove City took the lead with a pair of runs in the fifth inning off MLC starting pitcher
Travis Kretsch, and then added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Nate Goelzer,
Jared Lindemann and
Jason Lindemann each finished with one hit for MLC.
Kretsch took the loss on the mound, falling to 0-1 on the season after allowing five runs (all earned) on seven hits and one walk while striking out one.
The Knights fell to 2-6 on the season with the two defeats, and will conclude their trip to Florida with a single game against Loras College tomorrow (Tuesday, March 22). First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m.
