NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College baseball team was swept by Bethany Lutheran College in a Tuesday doubleheader by the scores of 11-3 and 22-0.
GAME 1
The Vikings were able to pull away in the late innings to take game one 11-3.
BLC took a 4-3 lead in the top of the fourth inning, and then chased MLC starting pitcher
Jonathan Kock from the game with three more runs in the sixth to take a 7-4 lead. The Vikings would close the game with four insurance runs in the ninth inning to put the Knights away.
Kock allowed seven runs in 6.0 innings, but only two of them earned as the MLC defense committed seveal costly errors behind him. Kock fell to 1-5 on the season with the loss.
MLC scored its first run thanks to a Kock single that scored
Tom Keller in the first inning, and then added its other two runs on a double from
Travis Kretsch that scored
Karl Kuschel and
Jacob Schultz.
GAME 2
BLC scored at least one run in all seven innings on the way to a 22-0 game two win.
The Vikings started the game with a bang, hitting back-to-back-to-back home runs off MLC starting pitcher
Dillon Solomon in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead.
Solomon pitched the first four innings for the Knights, allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits. He took the loss in the game, falling to 0-4 on the season.
MLC was able to muster only three hits in the game, with
Jason Lindemann,
Nate Goelzer and Schultz each finished with one apiece.
The Knights fell to 2-14 on the season and 0-4 in UMAC play in defeat. The Vikings improved their record to 4-12 overall, and 2-2 in league play.
MLC will return to action on Saturday, April 16, when it travels to Northland for a doubleheader scheduled to start at 1;30 p.m.
