ASHLAND, Wis. - The Martin Luther College softball team swept both games of a double header at Northland by the scores of 8-4 and 8-6 on Friday.
GAME 1
The Knights were able to get the offense rolling in an 8-4 game one win.
MLC led the Lumberjills 3-2 after five innings, but broke the game open with a five-run sixth inning.
Kelli Doell had one of the big hits in the rally with a two-run double to put the Knights ahead 8-2.
Northland scored twice in the seventh, but was unable to cut any further into the deficit.
Kathryn Marquardt improved to 4-7 with the win on the mound for MLC, pitching all seven innings and allowing only the four runs.
Doell led all players with three runs batted in, while
Olivia Knudsen finished with three of the Knights' seven hits.Â
GAME 2
MLC was able to complete the sweep with an 8-6 win in game two.Â
The Knights jumped to a big lead with the help of a four-run fourth inning, and added two more in the sixth.
Amanda Schoch gave way to Marquardt in the sixth inning, when the Lumberjills roared back with five runs to cut the MLC lead to 7-6, but the Knights added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a
Janelle Radue single, and Marquardt was able to get the final three outs in order to close the game for her first save of the season.
Schoch improved her record to 3-4 on the season after allowing five runs (two earned) in 5.1 innings. Her best work on the day came in the fourth, when the Lumberjills loaded the bases with zero outs, but Schoch retired the next three in order to hold them off.
Megan Lemke led the offense in game two with three hits and four runs batted in. Schoch also added three hits, while
Kayla Rosenbaum and Knudsen finished with a pair of hits.
Jessica Friebe, Schoch and Rosenbaum each scored a pair of runs.
MLC improved its record to 8-15 overall and 5-7 in conference play with the sweep.
The Knights will return to action on Wednesday, April 27, when they travel to Crown for a doubleheader.Â
