WATERTOWN, Wis. - The Martin Luther College baseball team split a doubleheader at Maranatha Baptist University on Friday. The Knights won game one 5-1, but lost game two 9-4.
GAME 1
First-year pitcher
Dillon Solomon earned his first career win as the Knights won the opener 5-1.
Solomon pitched a complete game, allowing only the one run on seven hits in seven innings as he improved to 1-6 on the season.
MLC scored first thanks to a bases loaded walk to
Travis Kretsch in the first inning, and then added two more runs on a
Jonathan Kock single in the third frame.
MBU scored its lone run in the fourth, but MLC answered right back thanks to an RBI double by
Tom Keller the following inning.
The Sabercats loaded the bases and sent the tying run to the plate in the seventh and final inning, but Solomon was able to pop up the final batter to close the game.
GAME 2
MBU was able to secure a split thanks to a 9-4 win in game two.Â
MLC took advantage of a wild pitcher in the first inning, scoring runs off a wild pitch and passed ball to take a 2-0 lead.Â
MBU would take control from that point, however, scoring four times in the second inning, and adding at least one run in each of the last four frames to build on that lead.
John Marquardt pitched for MLC, allowing all nine runs (two earned) on eight hits while striking out six. He fell to 0-3 this season with the loss.
Kretsch drove in two runs in the sixth inning to produce the only RBI of the game for MLC.
Jason Lindemann,
Karl Kuschel and Kock each finished with two hits for the Knights.
MLC moved to 6-22 on the season with the split. MBU is now 8-19.
These two teams will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, April 30) with another doubleheader. The start time for game one has been bumped up to 10 a.m.Â
