ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team dominated the scoreboard and the stat sheet in a 4-0 win at Crown on Saturday.
The Knights outshot the Storm 37-3 overall, and held a 20-2 edge in shots on goal.Â
The two teams remained scoreless for 22 minutes, but
Jenna Maurer continued her recent good form with a pair of goals (one assisted by
Hailey Johnson) to give MLC the 2-0 halftime lead. The two goals give Maurer six this season, and moved her into third place in program history with 42 career goals. She entered the game tied with Bethany Schultz for third place in program history with 40 goals.Â
The Knights built on their lead in the second half, as
Morgan Hill scored her first collegiate goal off a pass from
Martha Balge in the 58th minute, and Johnson closed the scoring with her first of the season in the 73rd minute to give MLC the final 4-0 margin.
Maurer finished the match with four of her six shots on goal.
Alyssa Maertz led the team with eight total shots, while
Mary Falck, Johnson and Hill each took at least four shots.
Julia Barthels stopped both shots she faced in goal for MLC, earning her first shutout of the season.
MLC improved its record to 2-4 overall, and evened its conference record at 1-1 with the win. Crown fell to 0-5-1 on the season and 0-1-0 in league play in defeat.
The Knights will return to action on Wednesday, September 21, when they travel to Bethany Lutheran for a game scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
