ST. PAUL - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team lost 4-2 at Northwestern on Saturday.
The teams were scoreless through 32 minutes, but the Eagles captured the momentum with goals in the 33rd and 40th minutes to take a 2-0 lead. MLC had a good chance late in the first half to cut the deficit in half, but an
Aaron Swanson shot in the 44th minute hit the cross bar, allowing the Eagles to keep their two-goal edge heading into the half.
The Eagles struck once again early in the second half, but
Joseph Graumann put the Knights on the board with his first collegiate goal in the 53rd minute to keep MLC in the game.
After UNW scored to make it 4-1,
Ethan Schultz finished the scoring with his second goal of the season in the 80th minute off a pass from
Jacob Shepherd.
MLC finished with a 19-17 edge in shots, including a 12-8 advantage in shots on goal. Graumann and
Josh Koelpin each finished with three shots on goal.
The Knights fell to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in UMAC play in defeat. UNW improved to 2-4-1 on the season and 1-2-0 in conference action with the win.
MLC will return to action on Wednesday, September 28, when it hosts Buena Vista in a game scheduled to start at 4:15 p.m.
