MANKATO, Minn. - The Martin Luther College volleyball team withstood a furious comeback to defeat Bethany Lutheran College in five sets by the scores of 18-25, 25-21, 25-19, 23-25 and 15-13 on Tuesday.

After losing the first set, the Knights took command of the match by winning the next two games by the scores of 25-21 and 25-19.

MLC led 19-13 in the fourth set, but the Vikings rallied to force a fifth set by winning five of the last six points.

The two teams went back and forth in the final game, but the Knights were able to assert themselves in the key points down the stretch to secure the win.

Jade St. Germaine led MLC with 17 kills, the last of which was the final point in the deciding set. Kira Grev added 12 kills to go with 18 digs and three blocks. Grace Schultz was the most efficient MLC hitter with a .333 attack percentage and eight kills. 

Emily Neeb led the team with 23 digs, while Emily Byhardt and Heidi Moldenhauer each finished with 22 assists.

MLC improved to 7-11 overall and 2-0 in UMAC play with the win. BLC fell to 6-11 on the season and 1-1 in league play in defeat.

The Knights will return to action on Saturday, October 1, when they host Northland for a 12 p.m. match.
