NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team was unable to hold a two-goal lead in a 4-3 defeat against Buena Vista on Wednesday.
The Knights controlled the game in the first half, scoring three times on the way to a 3-1 halftime lead.
Jenna Maurer led the Knights to the early lead, scoring goals in the 29th and 32nd minutes to give her nine on the season. Her first goal came on a rebound of her own shot on goal, while her second came off a great pass from
Abby Koelpin into the box to free her for the shot.Â
MLC's third goal came on a Koelpin corner kick in the 43rd minute, which
Emily Muir finished into the back of the net for her first of the season after Maurer headed it down in front of the goal.
The Beavers came back in the second half, tying the score in the 74th minute, and then scoring the game winner in the 84th minute to complete the comeback.
Maurer,
Alyssa Maertz and
Morgan Hill each finished with four total shots, while
Julia Barthels stopped nine of the 14 BVU shots on goal.
The Knights fell to 2-7 on the season in defeat, while BVU improved to 3-5-1 with the win.
MLC will return to action on Saturday, October 1, when it hosts Northland in a UMAC contest scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
