NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The Martin Luther College volleyball team split a pair of games for the second straight day at the St. Olaf tournament on Saturday. The Knights opened the day with a 3-1 (19-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-20) win over Macalester, and then lost 3-0 (25-9, 25-20, 25-18) against St. Olaf in the finale.
MLC 3, Macalester 1
The Knights overcame a 1-0 deficit to top Macalester in four sets to open the day.
The Scots took the first set 25-19, but MLC would respond with by hitting .224 on the attack in the second set to even the match.
In the important third set, MLC trailed 23-22 late, but finished with the final three points to take a 2-1 lead before finishing Macalester off in the fourth set.
Kira Grev led MLC with 15 kills and added 13 digs.
Jade St. Germaine finished with ten kills, while
Heidi Moldenhauer and
Emily Neeb led the team in 23 assists and 19 digs, respectively.
St. Olaf 3, MLC 0
The Knights were unable to carry the momentum from their early win into their second match of the day, as St. Olaf defeated MLC 3-0 to close the tournament.
The Oles jumped to a big early lead in the first game to take a 1-0 lead in the match, and then held the Knights off in each of the final two sets to finish the win.
MLC struggled with errors against the Oles, committing 28 on the way to a -.048 attack percentage for the match.
Grev once again led the team with eight kills.
Jenna Miller finished with three blocks.
The Knights moved their record to 2-2 to start the season following the split. They will return to action on Wednesday, September 7, when they travel to Gustavus Adolphus for a match scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
