MINNEAPOLIS - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team used a big second quarter run to defeat North Central 67-49 on Friday.
The Knights trailed 14-13 after the first quarter, but took control of the game in the second, outscoring the Rams 25-9 to take a 15-point lead into the half.
The Rams did their best to hang around, but the Knights never allowed the lead back into single digits as they cruised to the win.
The Knights' defense led the way, forcing 17 NCU turnovers and holding the Rams to 27.3 percent shooting from the field.Â
On offense, MLC turned the ball over only five times while shooting 37.1 percent from the floor and making 19 of 30 from the free throw line.
Four MLC players finished in double figures, led by
Grace Schultz with 13 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Faith Schroeder and
Hailey Johnson each finished with 12 points, while
Mariah Schoof scored ten points to go with seven assists and seven rebounds.
MLC improved its record to 5-9 overall and 4-3 in UMAC play with the win. NCU fell to 3-10 on the season and 1-6 in league play in defeat.
The Knights will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, January 14) when they travel to Northwestern for a game scheduled to tip off at 3 p.m.
