LA CROSSE, Wis. - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team shot lights out from the outside on the way to a 73-57 win at Viterbo on Tuesday.
The Knights finished the game a season-best 61.4 percent from the field, and also made five of ten attempts from beyond the three-point arc.Â
MLC did much of its damage offensively in the first half, shooting 16-21 (76.2 percent) overall and making five of eight from downtown on the way to a 22-point halftime lead.
The V-Hawks led 9-6 with 3:57 to play in the first quarter, but the Knights took control with a 26-2 run over the next 8:41, leading them to a 32-11 lead with 5:16 to play in the second period.
The Knights continued to dominate play after the half, building the lead as high as 27 points in the fourth quarter, and never allowing the V-Hawks closer than 14 points in the final two periods on the way to the win.
Grace Schultz led three MLC players in double figures with 15 points, and made six of her seven field goal attempts (including all three from three-point range).
Faith Schroeder and
Mariah Schoof finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively, with Schoof also dishing out a game-high six assists.Â
The offensive performance was a full-team effort, as evidenced by MLC's 22 points off the bench.
Cassandra Anklam led that group with eight points, while
Ruth Buchholz and
Jordan Zeck scored five and four points, respectively.
MLC improved to 6-10 on the season with the win, while the V-Hawks fell to 2-20 after the loss.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, January 21, when they travel to Bethany Lutheran College for a game scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
