NEW ULM, Minn - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team earned a 5-0 shutout win over Crown College on Wednesday.
The shutout was the Knights' sixth of the season, and the fifth in eight UMAC games.
MLC jumped out front early on
Martha Balge's second goal of the season in the fourth minute off a pass from
Morgan Hill. Hill got into the act just two minutes later with a penalty kick goal. The goal was Hill's fifth this season.
Danielle Hall finished the first half scoring with her first of the season to push the lead to 3-0 heading into halftime.
Mary Falck and
Sarah Kell finished the scoring in the second half for the Knights, who recorded 43 total shots and 18 shots on goal in the game. Falck's goal was her third this season, while Kell's goal was the first of her career.
Hailey Johnson finished with 11 total shots and five shots on goal to lead MLC in both categories. Balge added nine shots, while Falck attempted eight.
Mariah Tomassetti started in goal and played the first 77 minutes before giving way to
Sarah Rigge to finish the game. Tomassetti recorded one save on the only Storm shot on target.Â
MLC improved to 6-4-2 on the season and 5-1-1 in UMAC play with the win. Crown fell to 0-13 overall and 0-8 in league play in defeat.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, October 14, when they host UW-Superior in a game scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
