MANKATO, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team continued its defensive dominance this season in UMAC play with a 3-0 shutout win at Bethany Lutheran on Wednesday.
The shutout was the Knights' eighth of the season and the seventh in 11 UMAC contests.Â
MLC opened the scoring the 18th minute thanks to a BLC own goal, and then added one more first half tally in the 33rd minute thanks to
Morgan Hill's seventh goal of the season off a pass from
Hailey Johnson.
The Knights controlled play in the second half, outshooting the Vikings 10-3, and added a second insurance goal in the 68th minute on
Emily Muir's third goal of the season.
The three goals were more than enough for the MLC defense, which held BLC to eight total shots and four shots on goal in the game. MLC goalkeeper
Maria Tomassetti recorded her first shutout of the season after stopping all four BLC shots on target.
The Knights improved to 8-7-2 on the season and 7-3-1 in UMAC play with the win, while BLC fell to 7-10 overall and 5-6 in league play in defeat.
MLC, which clinched its berth in the UMAC Postseason Tournament last weekend, will travel to Northland College to play its regular season finale in a game scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. With a win in that game, the Knights would secure a top three seed in the conference tournament.Â
