ST. PAUL - The Martin Luther College volleyball team saw its season come to an end following a 3-0 loss to Northwestern (Minn.) by the scores of 25-13, 25-19 and 25-14 in the semifinal round of the UMAC Postseason Tournament on Wednesday.
The Knights had their work cut out for them against the regular season conference champions, and the Eagles showed why they went through the UMAC season undefeated by hitting .319 for the match. MLC battled and kept plays alive for much of the night, but were unable to slow down the high-powered UNW attack.Â
Jade St. Germaine finished with 10 kills to lead MLC, while
Kira Grev added nine kills and 11 digs.Â
Taylor Weber (15 digs) and
Rylee Weisensel (three blocks) led the team in those statistical categories.
The match not only meant the end of the season for the Knights, but also the end of the volleyball careers for seven seniors. The class of Grev, St. Germaine, Weber, Weisensel,
Jenna Miller,
Heidi Moldenhauer and
Grace Schultz finished a four-year stretch that included four straight trips to the UMACÂ Postseason Tournament, including quarterfinal wins in each of the last two seasons.Â
MLC finished the season 16-17 following the loss, while UNW advanced to the tournament final and improved its record to 31-6 with the win.
