MANKATO, Minn. - The Martin Luther College baseball team lost both games of its doubleheader at Bethany Lutheran by the scores of 10-1 and 10-0 on Tuesday.
BLC 10, MLC 1
Defensive miscues proved costly as the Knights lost game one 10-1.
Sophomore pitcher
Dillon Solomon started on the mound for the Knights and held the Vikings to only three runs through six innings, but BLC scored seven runs in the seventh and eighth innings to put the game away.
The MLC defense committed seven errors in the game that led to six unearned runs. Solomon (0-3) pitched the first seven innings and allowed six runs (three earned) on seven hits while striking out three.
Andrew Mantz came in relief for the final frame and allowed four runs (one earned).
Tom Keller scored the lone MLC run in the fourth inning thanks to a BLC error.
BLC 10, MLC 0 (7 innings)
The Vikings once again pulled away in the later innings in a 10-0 win over the Knights in game two.
BLC led 4-0 after three innings, and then put the game to bed with three runs in both the fifth and seventh innings.Â
Adam Kock (1-2) started the game for MLC allowed seven runs (all earned) in 5.2 innings before giving way to reliever
Nate Goelzer to close the game.
MLC was held to four hits in the game, with Goelzer leading the team with two of those hits.
The Knights fell to 4-12 on the season and 0-4 in UMAC play following the two defeats. BLC improved to 12-11 overall and 4-0 in conference play with the two wins.
MLC will return to action on Thursday, April 13, when it travels to Gustavus Adolphus for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
