WATERTOWN, Minn. - The Martin Luther College baseball team was unable to contain the bats from Crown College in two losses Wednesday by the scores of 14-0 and 13-4.
Crown 14, MLC 0
Crown jumped on the Knights for 11 runs in the first inning and never looked back in a 14-0 game one win.
The Storm scored 11 runs on 10 hits in the first inning off MLC starting pitcher
Adam Kock (1-1), who lasted just 0.1 innings before
Nate Goelzer came in relief. Goelzer shut the Storm down for 4.2 innings, but the damage had already been done.
MLC was held to three hits in the game, with seniors
Tom Keller,
Jason Lindemann and
Jon Kock each recording one.
Crown 13, MLC 4
The Storm overcame a strong MLC start and pulled away late to finish the sweep with a 13-4 win in game two.
Jon Kock gave MLC the lead in the top of the first inning with a two-run home run. It was his first of the season and scored Lindemann.
That lead was short-lived, however, as Crown scored once in the bottom of the first and four more times in second to take a 5-2 lead. Leading 6-2 after four innings, the Storm put the game away with seven runs in the fifth and sixth frames off MLC pitchers
Andrew Mantz and
Caleb Christopher.
Mantz (0-1) took the loss after allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 10 hits and five walks in 4.2 innings.Â
Jon Kock added to his strong game with an RBI single in the seventh innings, and finished with two hits, three runs batted in and one run.
MLC fell to 4-8 on the season following the two losses. Crown improved its record to 9-7 with the two wins.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, April 8, when they host UW-Superior. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
