NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College baseball team lost both games of its doubleheader against UW-Superior on Saturday by the scores of 10-5 and 7-2.
In the first game of the doubleheader, senior catcher
Jason Lindemann tied the school record with his seventh career home run. He joins Chad Waltz, Shane Krause and Tyler Morgan at the top of that list.
UWS 10, MLC 5
UW-Superior was able to hold off the charging Knights late in the game to win game one 10-5.
Senior
Jon Kock started the game and held the Yellowjackets hitless through three innings, but UWS got the offense rolling in the middle innings and led 6-0 until Jared Lindemann put the Knights on the board with an RBI double.
MLC scored four more times in the eighth, as
Dillon Solomon drove in two with a triple to right field, and
Jason Lindemann drove him in with his home run to cut the deficit to 6-5 heading into the ninth frame.
That would be as close as the Knights would get, however, as the Yellowjackets added four runs in the ninth to secure the win.
Kock (1-2) allowed all 10 runs (eight earned) on 15 hits. He also struck out nine UWS hitters in the game.
UWS 7, MLC 2
The Yellowjackets completed the sweep with a 7-2 win in game two.
UWS built a 6-0 lead early thanks to a pair of home runs by second baseman Chad Palko off MLC starting pitcher
Noah Panzer.
Panzer (1-2) pitched 7.0 innings for the Knights, allowing six runs (five earned) on 11 hits.
MLC scored its only two runs on a Kock two-run single in the fifth inning.
The Knights fell to 4-10 on the season and 0-2 in UMAC play with the two losses. UW-Superior improved to 4-12 overall and 2-0 in league play with the win.
MLC will return to action on Tuesday, April 11, when it travels to Bethany Lutheran for a doubleheader scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m.
