NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The Martin Luther College volleyball team opened its season with a pair of 3-0 defeats to Valley City State University and St. Olaf on Friday at the 2017 St. Olaf-Carleton Volleyball Invitational.
VCSUÂ 3, MLC 0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-20)
The Knights opened the day and the season with a three-set defeat against Valley City State University.Â
VCSUÂ were stronger on the attack throughout the match, hitting .232 compared to .013 for MLC.
Jade St. Germaine and
Moriah Hackbarth each led MLC with five kills apiece.
Senior Libero
Taylor Weber led MLC with five digs.
St. Olaf 3, MLC 0 (25-8, 25-17, 25-18)
The Knights were unable to split the first day thanks to a 3- 0 defeat to host St. Olaf in the nightcap.
The Oles jumped quickly to 1-0 lead in the match thanks to a dominant first game, and then closed the match with strong wins in the final two games.
Kira Grev led MLC with five kills. First-year setter
Hailey Stade finished with eight assists, while Weber led the team with eight digs.
MLC will return to action at the tournament tomorrow (Saturday, September 2) when it plays matches against Hamline (1 p.m.) and Crown (5 p.m.).Â
