NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team defeated Northland 3-2 on Saturday.
The game remained scoreless through the first half, but the Knights broke through early in the second half a
Joseph Graumann goal off an assist from his brother
Nathan Graumann. The goal was Joe's fourth of the season.Â
After the Lumberjacks tied the score at 1-1 in the 55th minute, the Knights scored a pair of goals in 98 seconds to put the game away.
Joel Koelpin scored his third of the season off a pass from
Nathan Graumann in the 63rd minute, and Joe Graumann tacked on a necessary insurance goal off a
Justin Steinke assist in the 64th minute to push the lead to 3-1.
Northland scored in the 78th minute to cut the deficit to one, but the MLC defense stood tall the rest of the way as the Knights secured the win.
MLC outshot the Lumberjacks 25-16 in the game.
Caleb King stopped five of the six shots he faced in goal for MLC before giving way to
Gabriel Plocher in the final 20 minutes.Â
MLC improved to 3-3 overall and 2-0 im UMAC play with the win. The Lumberjacks fell to 1-4 on the season and 0-1 in league play in defeat.
The Knights will return to action on Tuesday, September 19, when they host North Central in a game scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
