NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team continued its strong start to the season with a 2-0 win over North Central on Tuesday.
The Knights controlled play for much of the game, outshooting the Rams 21-14 overall and 10-7 in shots on goal.
Nathan Graumann broke a scoreless tie in the 31st minute with his first goal of the season off a pass from
Elijah Kroll to give the Knights a 1-0 lead at the half.
Hugo Ugalde-Bemer scored the insurance goal in the second half off an assist from
Joel Koelpin in the 66th minute. The goal was Ugalde-Bemer's first of the season.
Those two goals were more than enough for the MLC defense, led by center backs
Ryan Plath and
Nathan Lemke, as well as goalkeeper
Caleb King, who stopped all seven shots on goal to secure his first shutout of the season and the 10th of his career.
The win was the fourth in a row for MLC, which moved to 4-3 overall and 3-0 in UMAC play with the win. NCU fell to 1-3-1 on the season and 0-2-1 in league play in defeat.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, September 23, when they travel to UW-Superior for a game scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
