Box Score 2 OSHKOSH, Wis. - The Martin Luther College volleyball team split the first day of the 2017 Pizza Hut Classic hosted by UW-Oshkosh on Friday. The Knights defeated Lawrence 3-2 (27-25, 25-19, 23-25, 16-25, 15-12) in the opener before losing 3-0 against Concordia University - Wisconsin (25-17, 25-18, 25-20) in the nightcap.

The Knights held off a late charge by Lawrence to win their first game of the tournament 3-2 by the scores of 27-25, 25-19, 23-25, 16-25 and 15-12.
MLC jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the match, but Lawrence came all the way back to force a deciding fifth set before the Knights were able to clinch the win.
MLC hit .118 on the attack with
Jade St. Germaine leading the way with 21 kills and a .333 attack percentage.
Kira Grev added 10 kills, while
Grace Schultz and
Rylee Weisensel added nine and five kills, respectively.
Taylor Weber led the team with 21 digs.
Hailey Stade recorded a career best 26 assists.
CUW 3, MLC 0
MLC was unable keep that momentum going in the second match of the day in a 3-0 loss to Concordia University Wisconsin by the scores of 25-17, 25-18 and 25-20.
The Knights .048 in the match, and were unable to slow down a CUW attack that finished with an attack percentage of .247.
Grev and
Moriah Hackbarth led MLC with six kills apiece. Heid Moldenhauer finished with a team-best 13 assists.
The Knights moved to 3-4 on the season following the split, and will play twice more at the tournament tomorrow (Saturday, September 9). MLC's first match will be against Wisconsin Lutheran College at 1:30 p.m., followed by a match against St. Norbert College at 3:30 p.m.
