NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College survived a five-set thriller against Crown College on Wednesday by the scores of 25-14, 17-25, 25-21, 18-25, 15-13.
The Knights dominated the first game and won the third set, but were unable to keep the momentum after either set as the Storm answered right back to force a fifth and deciding game.
In the final set, the Storm rushed out to an 8-4 lead, but MLC responded with six straight points. Crown came right back and took a 13-12 lead, but the Knights closed the match with the final three points to secure the win.
Ruth Buchholz was the Knights' top hitter with a match-high 19 kills and hit .318. She also led the team with four blocks.
Kati Aguilar recorded 12 kills, while
Jewel St. Germaine led the team with 32 assists to go with 16 digs, four kills and one block.
In the back row,
Katelyn Aswege was steady throughout as she set a new career-high with 32 digs.
MLC improved to 6-18 on the season and 6-5 in UMAC play with the win. Crown fell to 1-21 overall and 1-11 in league play in defeat.Â
The Knights will return to action on Friday, October 12, when they host Carleton in a match scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
