SUPERIOR, Wis. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team lost in 1-0 in double overtime at UW-Superior on Saturday in the UMAC Game of the Week.
The conference chose this as its Game of the Week due to the importance of the match-up to the conference standings heading down the stretch, and the two teams battled for more than 100 minutes.
The Yellowjackets got the better end on the stat sheet, out-shooting MLC 26-8 overall and 12-4 in shots on goal, but weren't able to put anything past MLC keeper
Mollie Fischer for all of regulation and through the first overtime.
UWS finally broke through in the 102nd minute, however, when Lisa Shelquist scored the game-winner.
Fischer was strong throughout the contest with 11 saves on 12 UWS shots on goal.
Emily Witkowski led MLC with two shots.
MLC dropped to 3-11 on the season and 3-5 in UMAC play following the loss. UWS improved to 4-9-1 overall and 4-4 in league play with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Tuesday, October 16, when they travel to Minnesota Morris for a game scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
