ST. PAUL - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team earned a hard fought 1-0 win at Northwestern-St. Paul in tough conditions on Saturday.
With cold temperatures and the wind blowing, neither team was able to scratch across a goal in the first half, although the Eagles got the better of play while being credited with 12 shots (six on goal) in the first 45 minutesof action.
The Knights got things going on the offensive end early in the second half, and found the back of the net in the 57th minute when
Joe Graumann scored his ninth goal of the season off an assist from
Josh Koelpin.
That would be all the scoring for either team in the game, as the Knights held UNW without a shot on goal in the second half on the way to the win.
Graumann finished with a game-high seven shots, including two shots on goal. He now leads the UMAC with 23 points and ranks second with eight goals during conference play this season.
Gabriel Plocher was big in net, recording his second consecutive shutout while stopping five UNW shots on goal.
MLC improved to 6-8-2 on the season and 5-3-2 in UMAC play with the win. UNW fell to 4-12-1 overall and 2-7-1 in defeat.Â
The Knights will return home for a game against Bethany Lutheran on Wednesday, October 24, at 1 p.m.
