NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College volleyball team swept Northland 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 25-15) in its home finale on Saturday.
The Knights jumped on top early and never let up throughout the match, hitting .253 on the attack while holding the Lumberjills to -.011.
Northland made a brief comeback attempt in the first set, but the Knights held them off to take a 1-0 lead, and then cruised to wins in each of the next two sets as all 14 players got to see playing time.
Ruth Buchholz and
Kati Aguilar each finished with nine kills, with Aguilar also adding 10 digs, while Buchholz led the team with three blocks.
Jewel St. Germaine had a strong all-around performance with six kills, eight digs and 15 assists.
Katelyn Aswege led MLC in both digs (17) and service aces (four), and
Camryn Biebert finished with a match-high 20 assists.
MLC improved to 7-22 overall and 7-7 in UMACÂ play with the win. Northland fell to 4-23 on the season and 3-12 in league play in defeat.
The Knights will go on the road to play at Bethany Lutheran in a match with significant UMAC Postseason Tournament implications on Wednesday, October 24.
