NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team lost its non-conference match-up against Hamline 3-0 Wednesday.
Conditions were difficult for both teams, as winds of 20-30 mph greeted the teams to open the game, and gusts upwards of 50 mph were prevalent throughout the second half.
The Pipers wasted no time asserting themselves as they scored just 1:53 into the game, and then added a second goal in the ninth minute to take a 2-0 lead at the half.
Hamline played with the wind at its back in the second half and out-shot the Knights 21-1 after halftime, but MLC goalkeeper
Mollie Fischer allowed only one shot to get through as the Pipers finished the 3-0 win.
Fischer was strong in net for the Knights, battling through the difficult conditions to stop 14 of 17 Hamline shots on goal.
Lydia Bitter and
Rachel Bitter each recorded a pair of shots for MLC.
The Knights fell to 2-9 on the season in defeat. Hamline improved to 4-6-1 with the win.
MLC will return to action on Saturday, October 6, when it hosts St. Scholastica in a game scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
