NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team held St. Scholastica off the scoreboard until the final minutes in a 1-0 loss to the Saints on Saturday.
The Saints held possession for much of the game, but the Knights were strong on the back end and gave up very few strong chances as CSS continually fired away from the outside.
CSS finished the game with 58 shots, but only 15 of them were on goal as many were blocked by MLC defenders. Of the shots that did get through,
Mollie Fischer was steady in goal for MLC and stopped 14 of the Saints' 15 shots on goal.
The two teams remained scoreless until the 84th minute when the Saints finally scored off a cross into the middle that was kicked home for the game-winner by Kaiya Quam.
Rachel Bitter recorded the one MLC shot on goal in the loss.
MLC fell to 2-10 on the season and 2-4 in UMAC play in defeat. The Saints improved to 6-4-2 overall and 6-0-1 in league play with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Wednesday, October 10, when they travel to Crown College for a game scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
