Knights Sweep NCU Doubleheader at Plymouth Dome

PLYMOUTH, Minn. - The Martin Luther College softball team evened its conference record thanks to a doubleheader sweep of North Central University by the scores of 8-6 and 13-2 at the Plymouth Creek Dome on Friday.

MLC 8, NCU 6

The Knights opened the day with an 8-6 win over the Rams.

MLC jumped on top early thanks to a four-run second inning, but NCU came back to tie the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the third inning.

The Knights took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the fifth inning, and then added two more runs in the sixth to hold of the Rams for the win.

Kayla Rosenbaum and Audrey Timm each finished with a pair of hits and combined for five runs batted in. Jodi Halvorson scored two runs and stole two bases, while Megan Lemke added two steals and one RBI. The Knights stole six bases as a team in the game.

Morgan Palubicki (2-4) started the game and allowed four runs (three earned) in four innings of work. Rebecca Pruss came on relief to record the save thanks to three innings in which she allowed two runs.

MLC 13, NCU 2

MLC jumped on top with five runs in the first three innings, and then scored eight runs in the seventh frame to complete the sweep with a 13-2 win in game two.

The Knights finished the game with 15 hits and stole six more bases in the win. Timm added four hits and scored two runs to lead the offense, while Rosenbaum and Brett Burger each recorded three hits and four runs batted in. Lemke added two more hits and two stolen bases to her game one totals. 

Pruss (1-5) earned her first win of the season after allowing only one run on four hits in four innings. Palubicki pitched the final three innings and allowed only one run to get the save.

MLC improved to 3-9 on the season and 2-2 in UMAC play with the sweep. NCU fell to 7-15 overall and 1-5 in league play following the two defeats.

The Knights will return to action on Wednesday, April 18, when they host Bethany Lutheran in a UMAC doubleheader.
