MANKATO, Minn. - The Martin Luther College baseball team lost both games of its doubleheader at Bethany Lutheran on Wednesday by the scores of 9-0 and 12-2.
BLC 9, MLC 0
The Vikings scored three times in the first inning and never looked back on the way to a 9-0 win in game one.
MLC starting pitcher
Dillon Solomon (1-2) struggled to find the strike zone as he allowed five runs on three hits and seven walks in four innings of work. Reliever
Nate Goelzer pitched four strong innings of relief to keep the Knights in the game at 5-0 heading into the ninth frame, but the Vikings were able to score four times off him in the final inning to push the lead to the final margin.Â
The Knights were held to three hits in the game, with
Caleb Christopher,
Jared Lindemann and
Tyler Roecker each finishing with one hit.Â
BLC 12, MLC 2
BLC was able to secure the sweep thanks to a 12-2 win in seven innings in game two.
MLC starter
Joey Behm (0-2) allowed three runs in the first four innings, but the Vikings were able to get to him in the late innings, scoring five runs off Behm in the fifth and sixth innings, and then added four more against Roecker in relief. Behm finished the game with eight runs allowed (six earned) on eight hits and four walks in 5.1 innings.Â
MLC jumped to a quick 1-0 lead following an RBI single from Christopher that scored
Matt Baehman in the top of the first inning, but was only able to score one other run in the game despite recording nine total hits. Baehman led the team with three hits, while Christopher added two hits.Â
The Knights fell to 2-10 on the season and 0-4 in UMAC play following the two defeats. BLC improved to 12-8 overall and 7-1 in league play with the two wins.
MLC will return to action on Friday, April 27, when it travels to UW-Superior for a doubleheader scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m.
