MLC Men Tie BLC 2-2

Box Score MANKATO, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team tied Bethany Lutheran 2-2 after a pair of overtimes Saturday night.

BLC opened the scoring in the 14th minute, but the Knights came right back with Joe Graumann's second goal of the season in the 17th minute to send the game into halftime tied 1-1.

The Knights struggled to connect for much of the second half as the Vikings pressed on the other end, but Josh Koelpin put the Knights ahead late with a long distance goal to give MLC the 2-1 lead heading into the final minutes.

Playing a man down due to a red card, the Vikings refused to go away and tied the game in the 90th minute off a free kick to send the game into overtime.

The Knights had a chance in the final minute of the second overtime with free kick just outside the box, but Aaron Swanson's shot was blocked in the final seconds.

These two rivals have made a habit of playing down the wire games, especially at BLC. This marks the third time in the last four seasons in which these teams went to overtime on the Vikings' pitch, and each of the last seven games in Mankato have been decided by one or less.

MLC moved to 2-3-1 overall and 1-0-1 in UMAC play, while BLC is now 3-2-1 on the season and 1-0-1 in league play.

MLC will return to action on Tuesday, September 18, when it hosts Minnesota Morris in a UMAC game scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
