MANKATO, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team earned its first win of the season by the score of 3-1 at Bethany Lutheran on Saturday night.
The Knights took control early thanks to a pair of goals on the way to a 2-0 halftime lead.
Abby Enstad started the scoring at the 12:00 minute mark off a pass from
Morgan Hill, and
Avery Broyles pushed the lead to two with a goal in the 32nd minute off an assist from
Morgan Spoehr. Enstad's goal was the first of her collegiate career, while Broyles' goal was her third of the season.
MLC continued to press in the second half and was rewarded when
Rachel Bitter scored her first of the season in the 58th minute, giving the Knights a 3-0 lead.
BLC was able to get on the board in the 84th minute, but the Knights held on in the final minutes to secure the win.
The Vikings were credited with more shots (26-10) and shots on goal (13-7), but the Knights made the most of their chances.
Mollie Fischer stopped 12 of the Vikings' 13 shots on goal, while
Lydia Bitter and
Rachel Bitter registered four and three shots, respectively.
MLC improved to 1-4 on the season and 1-1 in UMAC play with the win. BLC fell to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in league play in defeat.
The Knights will return to action on Tuesday, September 18, when they host Minnesota Morris for a conference game scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
