NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's soccer team lost its game to Minnesota Morris by the score of 2-1 on Tuesday.
The two teams remained scoreless until the Cougars finally opened the scoring with a long distance goal in the 43rd minute to take a 1-0 lead into the half.
Undeterred, the Knights found the equalizer in the first minute of the second half thanks to a long distance goal from
Rachel Bitter. The goal was Bitter's second of the season.
The teams went back and forth for much of the second half, but the Cougars broke the tie in the 80th minute with another goal from outside the box, and then held on the rest of the way for the win.
The game was even throughout, with both teams finishing with 16 total shots. The Cougars put seven of those shots on next, four of which were stopped by MLC keeper
Mollie Fischer, while a fifth shot on goal was blocked an MLC defender in front of goal.
Bitter led MLC with four total shots, two of which were on goal.
Lydia Bitter,
Abby Enstad and
Emily Witkowski each recorded two shots in the game.
MLC fell to 1-5 on the season and 1-2 in UMAC play in defeat. UMM improved to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in league play with the win.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday, September 22, when they travel to St. Scholastica for a game scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
