NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College men's soccer team tied Minnesota Morris 2-2 in a back-and-forth game Tuesday night.
The two teams went into halftime scoreless, but the Knights found a spark early in the second half when
Aaron Swanson scored his second goal of the season in the 54th minute off a pass from
Joe Graumann.
The Cougars came back four minutes later to tie the game 1-1, but MLC once again found the lead when Graumann scored off a
Joel Koelpin pass in the 65th minute. The goal was Graumann's team-leading third of the season.
The Knights held off the Cougars until the 88th minute, when UMM's Gabe Arreguin was able to send in a loose ball in front of the goal to tie the game with 2:33 to play in regulation.
Both teams battled for two extra periods, but neither team was able to muster the game-winner as they settled for the draw.
Graumann finished with six total shots to lead all players, and has now recorded one goal and one assist in all three UMAC games so far this season. Swanson,
Josh Koelpin,
Joel Koelpin,
Hugo Ugalde-Bemer and
Luke Meihack all finished with two shots.Â
Gabe Plocher stopped nine of the Cougars 11 attempts on goal.
The Knights moved to 2-3-2 on the season and 1-0-2 in UMAC play following the game, while the Cougars are now 0-5-2 overall and 0-1-1 in league play.
MLC will return to action on Saturday, September 22, when it travels to St. Scholastica for a game scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
