MINNEAPOLIS - The Martin Luther College volleyball team swept its conference triangular at North Central University on Saturday. The Knights won the opener 3-1 (23-25, 25-13, 25-20, 25-11) against Northland, and then defeated North Central 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-14) in the night cap.
MLC 3, Northland 1 (23-25, 25-13, 25-20, 25-11)
The Knights started slow but ended strong in a four-set win over Northland to open the day.
Northland took the first set 25-23, but the Knights roared back to take the next two sets, and then won the final set going away thanks to a .375 attack percentage.
MLC hit .187 for the match, with
Kelsey Birschbach leading the way with 14 kills.
Kati Aguilar added nine kills to go with 16 digs, while
Ruth Buchholz added seven kills and a pair of blocks.
Jewel St. Germaine led the team with 23 assists, and also added 14 digs and four kills.
Katelyn Aswege led the team wih 18 digs.

MLC closed the day with a three-set sweep of host North Central.Â
The Knights were strong on the attack throughout the match, finishing with a .321 attack percentage and recording only nine errors in the match.
Aguilar and Birschbach led the team with 10 and nine kills, respectively, while Buchholz hit .500 on the way to eight kills. St. Germaine matched her total from the first match with a team-best 23 assists.
MLC improved to 4-11 on the season and 4-2 in UMAC play following the sweep. The Knights will return to action on Monday, September 24, when they host St. Catherine in a match scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
