OSHKOSH, Wis. - The Martin Luther College volleyball team dropped both matches on the opening day of the Pizza Hut Classic at UW-Oshkosh on Friday. The Knights lost the opener 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-19) against Wisconsin Lutheran before losing 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-22) to UW-Stout to close the day.
WLC 3, MLC 0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-19)
The Knights opened the day with a three-set loss to Wisconsin Lutheran.
MLC started slowly on the attack, hitting -.059 in the opening set and .000 in the second set, but played better in the third game with an attack percentage of .304.
WLC was consistent on the attack and hit .283 while committing only six errors for the match.
Katelyn Aswege led the Knights with 13 digs.
Jewel St. Germaine finished with 13 assists, while
Kati Aguilar led the team with five kills.
UW-Stout 3, MLC 0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-22)
MLC was unable to salvage the second match of the day as it lost in three sets to UW-Stout.
The Knights hit .086 for the match, led by first year outside hitter
Kelsey Birschbach with five kills and an attack efficiency of .400.
Ruth Buchholz added four kills and three blocks in the middle.
MLC fell to 0-7 on the season in defeat, and will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, September 8) at the tournament. The Knights will face Elmhurst at 9:30 a.m., followed by a match against host UW-Oshkosh at 11:30 a.m.
